Occurrence remarks Perennial herb to 30 cm high, spreading by rooting from stems lying on or beneath soil. Dies back in winter then produces small leaves and inflorescences. The luxuriant leafy growth appears afterwards. Commonly known as 'All-spice' and is used as a flavouring in home cooking. The flowers are very pale mauve, almost white, somewhat inconspicuous. [Specimen with] flowers Nov 1959, leaves Jan 1960.
