Field notes Tallest plant ca. 3 metres high. Stem solitary, erect, ca. 1 metre wide near base, ca. 40 cm across at breast height, covered with closely set old leaf bases. Petiole ca. 1 metre long, with conspicuous brown spines along margins, the petiole green except for a conspicous brown zone near base. Leaf lamina ca. 1 metre x 1 metre, fan-shaped, plicate; segments basally fused, mid green, with scattered, long, hanging fibres.
