Occurrence remarks Locally frequent (>20 plants over 12 m x 3 m in a relatively solid mat) shrub to 1.7 m high. Stems pale brown with scattered spines. Leaves to 6.5 cm long (including winged petiole about 1 cm long) and to 3 cm wide, dark green above, paler below. Downy mildew on many leaves. Calyx green, glabrous, with 5 lobes. Corolla with 5 spreading pink-purple lobes with yellow towards throat and dark purple veins, tube yellow. Ovary white hairy. Stamens 5 with white filaments and brown anthers. Fruit ellipsoid and red when ripe. Many dry flowers present and only 2 fruit seen (this could be because plants set little fruit, fruit are attractive to animals or dry conditions have limited fruit set).

Growing in Casuarina cunninghamiana Miq. subsp. cunninghamiana, Eucalyptus melliodora A.Cunn. ex Schauer and Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. woodland invaded by exotics such as Salix x sepulcralis Simonk., Ligustrum lucidum W.T.Aiton, Sorghum halepense (L.) Pers., Austrostipa verticillata (Nees ex Spreng.) S.W.L.Jacobs & J.Everett, Foeniculum vulgare Mill., Bidens subalternans DC. and Bidens pilosa L."
