| Organism remarks | Gregarious. Pileus: 14-25 mm wide, convex, becoming more broadly so; margin straight, finely shaggy with deep brown scales; surface dry, squamulose, deep brown at centre (Methuen 8F5), squamules becoming more dispersed as pileus expands, revealing white undersurface. Flesh: up to 2.5 mm thick, hard, white, not bruising. Lamellae: 5-10 mm long x 2-3 mm deep; free; narrow; close; white; margin finely fimbriate (x10); 1-2 tiers of lamellules; very occasionally anastomosing. Stipe: 30-47 mm long x 3-4(-7) mm wide at bulb; more or less equal, sub-bulbous; central, terete; dry; minutely pruinose at apex (x10), then with fine appressed fibrils above a central to superior thin, fine deep brown annulus; deep brown, appressed fibrils (almost scaly) below to deep brown (8F5) base. Flesh: firm, dry, fistulose; white, often with some pinkish brown bruising (or colouration). Spore print: creamy brown. Dextrinoid reaction on spores, using Melzer's reagent. Odour: none. |
