Field notes Herb scattered but not common through area. Plants to 1.2 m high. Stems green with scattered hairs and angled towards inflorescence. Leaves deeply dissected and toothed, dark green above, paler below, both surfaces with scattered hairs. Inflorescence non radiate; inner involucral bracts 13, green, glabrous; all florets tubular, purple, with five lobes, pappus purplish; styles with 2 arms. Cypsellas pale brown, longitudinally ribbed, small white hairs in grooves.
