Field notes Perennial, densely caespitose herb, forming clumps to 1 metre across; roots fleshy, long-fusiform, to 10 cm long x 6 mm, off-white. Leaves to 1 m long, more or less grey-green, concolorous, midnerve paler. Inflorescence to 1.6 m high, up to 20 infl's per clump. Inflorescence with numerous flowers. Outer surface of outer tepals with broad pale green midrib & narrow blue-lilac margin. Inner surface of outer tepals midrib paler. Strumae bright yellow, anthers pale yellow. Flowers 16-19 mm across when open, Dianthus- scented. 11 plants at site, but scattered over aabout a km along the road.
