Field notes | Shrub up to 2 m high. Leaves light green, paler below with strong scent. Calyx dark purple-maroon, bracts dark maroon: corolla mauve throughout no marking. Lobes of upper lip recurved, lower lip with lobes extended forward and slightly spreading. Staminal filiments mauve, anthers mauve, basally paler ovary yellow-green, disc pale orange-brown, style and stigma pale mauve, style and stigma exserted beyond anthers before stigma mature. Corolla turns bright blue when placed in 100% Ethyl Alcohol. |
