Occurrence remarks | Locally abundant (many 1000's of plants over a few hectares here and further to the north; another patch also seen at 29 37 44 S 147 40 13 E near a disused woolshed (where over 30 m x 30 m with scattered plants to 60 further down slope)) cactus to 50 cm high. Cladodes to 2.5 cm wide, grey-green, darker for new growth. Spines straw coloured, 2-7 large spines to 3.8 cm long and 1-3 smaller spines per areole. Sepaloid perianth segments pale pink on outer surface. Petaloid perianth segments pinkish yellow, to 1.7 cm long and to 1.1 cm wide; stamens with filaments greenish towards base, pale yellow towards anthers, anthers and pollen yellow; style pale cream, stigma pale greenish yellow. Fruit to 2 cm long, older fruit spineless; broadest old fruit with seeds surrounded by sticky material. Dactylopius tomentosus causing damage to cladodes of some plants. |
