Occurrence remarks | This weed was first noticed at Bathurst in New South Wales. It is a coarse, spiny plant which has been suspected of poisoning cows. it grows up to 3 feet in height and produces hooked spined burrs which cause a lot of trouble to wool growers as the burr detracts from the value of wool. Sheep are the main distributors of this plant. They transplant it from one district to another on the wool. Bathurst Burr can be effectively controlled by hand hoeing but at times, if it is neglected, it becomes so dense that a disc implement has to be used. It can be killed by some ... sprays. Bathurst Burr is declared a weed under the Noxious weed act. |
