Occurrence remarks Spreading shrub to 1 m. Leaves long-linear, veins raised above. Stems 4-angled, red-pink near nodes. Inflorescence axillary, cymose. Flowers shiny purple. Fruit a capsule. Locally common on riparian banks and islands. Photos [at NAQS-Cairns]. Collected as part of the Northern Australia Quarantine Strategy.

Supplied as "Riparian metamorphics with alluvium patches. On riparian banks and islands. Growing with weedy sward of Solanum nodiflorum, Crassocephalum crepidioides, Erechtites valerianifolius, Ageratum conyzoides, Rubus alceifolius, Paspalum conjugatum, Pollia, Commelina and native VF seedlings. Riparian forest dominated by Tristaniopsis exiliflora and Syzygium tierneyanum."
