Organism remarks Characterised by: i) flat umbo on cap; ii) double veil, one very thin; iii) slender fistulose stipe with short wide bulb; iv) stipe staining yellow when cut. Pileus: 39-94 mm broad (buttons narrower); circular, umbonate; margin slightly incurved, becoming straight then plane, with narrow pieces of partial veil attached in places; generally smooth and entire; surface minutely radially, dull, but becoming smoother with age, some young specimens rivulose, dull dark greyish brown (Methuen 5E5, 4E2), darker at centre, becoming all over paler when mature. Flesh: 4-5 mm thick at centre, firm, white, not staining. Lamellae: 21-41 mm long x 4-7 mm deep, free; thin; crowded; face and margin smooth; 3 tiers of lamellules, sometimes anastomosing; very pale (much paler than 5E2) flesh coloured, becoming fawn-pink (5B3) then dull brown (5D4). Stipe: 55-62 mm long x 5-8 mm wide, central, terete, with basal bulb which is short but wide; smooth, white, silky at times with no partial veil remnants when mature. Staining yellow when cut, but fading back to white. Partial veil: white, very thin, double, with small skirt underneath, minutely flocculent, with stains. Tan-coloured water droplets and tiny tan marks seen on veil; can be minutely and unevenly serrulate when young. Spore print: dull dark brown. Odour: faint, not especially pleasant. Taste: not tested.
