Field notes Robust herb to c. 0.6 m tall. Stems rather thick, ascending with erect secondary flowering stems, green with purplish tinge between longitudinal ridges. Leaves mid green above, pale green below with midrib standing out prominently. Phyllaries and bracts on peduncles green with dark purple-black tips. Ligules rich purplish-magenta disc golden.
