Field notes | Many-branched, erect tree; graceful, 4-6 m high, 4 m wide. Fruits 1 m long pods x 10 cm wide. Foliage similar to Radermachera but much broader. Prominent midrid below leaf. Fruits green-black. Flowers orange or red. |
Occurrence remarks | Locally frequent. Many plants seen on opposite side of river hanging over bank. Main trees in this forest were Schima, Wedlandia, Castanopsis, Engelhardtia. Chinese name means 1000 papery seeds. Seeds used medicinally for eyes. Collector has colour transparency in archives. Acc. no. RBGM 961084. |
