Field notes | Herb mostly less than 1.2 (but rarely to 2.5) m high. Plant with milky white sap. Stems green with red-brown spotting to streaks, older stems brown. Leaves dark green and glabrous above, grey-green with curly white hairs below; leaves close to inflorescence often with pink to bright red bases, in some cases smaller leaves almost entirely red. Leaf margins entire to fiddle-shaped. Cyathia mostly with single large (about 2 mm long) yellow-green gland. Female flower with 6 stigma lobes. A number of male flowers in each cyathium. Male |
