Location remarks | Bathurst Burr. It is a big problem to people who grow wool. The burr of this bush, as can be seen by the specimen, have small hooks. These hooks are adapted to catch the hide (wool) on any animal which brushes against it. The animal then acts as a "seed disperser". It has been introduced from South America and is now a common weed on many of the improved pastures of Australia. Bathurst Burr is very similar to Noogoora Burr, both cause extensive damage to sheep fleeces, matting the fibres together. This entails added cost for special treatments necessary to remove the burrs from the fleeces |
