Occurrence remarks | Along northern bank of river. Robust woody vine climbing 50-60ft or higher into gallery forest canopy. Young plants look like small shrubs but begin to twine when adjacent to other vegetation. Leaves leathery, glossy above, discolourous. New foliage flushed with red. Flowers in dense terminal racemes, sweetly scented. Corolla of fringed white petals with yellow centres. Conspicuous reddish gland subtends calyx. Fruit distinctly winged, mature to brown, fall from canopy with a helicoptor-like motion. Dense infestation reported to extend for several kilometres. Heavy weight of vines and foliage is snapping branches on supporting remnant gallery forest trees. |
