Occurrence remarks | Locally dominant (many 1000s in area 110 x 20-50 m, also scattered over neighbouring properties, including in pine forest across Kalang Road from Bellingen Hospital) herb to 1 m high. Most common in shaded areas but also present (but not abundant) in. exposed areas. Growing from a taproot, or via spreading stems that root where in contact with the ground. Stems green, 4-sided, opposite sides curved in, other 2 sides curved out. Leaves opposite, dark green above, cystoliths numerous and obvious above;. lower surface paler than upper surface and without visible cystoliths. Flowers orange-red, c. 3 cm long, corolla curved down on lower side and upper side with curve down c. 1.2 cm from base, corolla with 5 lobes, largest lobe basal; stamens 4, contained. within corolla, filaments white attached on one side to corolla tube near base of filaments, anthers white with purple on outer surface; stigma purple, bilobed, one short and erect the other curved; style white but purple towards stigma. Fruit forming. |
