Occurrence remarks Barrel medic is an annual which is considered good fodder in the drier districts. It is now being sown to some extent. The burr is not as objectionable to wool growers as that of most of the other trefoils suitable to dry conditions (14-20 in rainfall. Barrel Medic is recommended for the wheat country even the Mallee with rainfall as low as 13 inches per annum. It is a very hardy legume and prefers soil with a high lime content. It will eradicate inferior medics and weeds and enriches the soil. It makes good material for hay or silage. Trials to date in New South Wales have indicated that the growth of Barrel Medic is very sparse and about equal in bulk to early strains of sub-clover. The period of growth and earliness of seeding characteristic of sub. are also manifest in Barrel medic. The medic is not recommended for use in pastures - midseason or Mt Barker Strain subterranean Clover are more profitable!
