Occurrence remarks This plant has been here for approximately three years. Another, located on the path from the upper car-park, was grown from a cutting. The original specimen was obtained from the Cairns Botanic Gardens (most likely from a cutting). Given its prolific seeding, the closeness of its relationship to other weedy Eupatoriae and its invasiveness as a garden escape to forest margins in New Zealand, this species must be considered a potentially serious invader of this National Park. Ornamental shrub to 2.5m tall. Young stems and leaves softly hairy. Younger stems, primary venation and that on undersurface of leaves reddish-purple. Young florets bright mauve, fading with age. Sweetly scented, attractive to bees. Currently flowering and seeding. Bartlettina sordida (Lees.) R.M.King & H Rob. (1971) (Syn. Eupatorium sordidum; Ageratum corymbosa). Spirit material at BRI.
