Field notes Herb to 70 cm high. Leaves in a basal rosette, lamina to 9 cm long and to 4.5 cm wide, cuneate, paler on lower surface, scattered narrow hairs more common on lower surface and on margins, small teeth c. 1 cm apart on leaf margins. Petioles to 4 cm long. Stems with white non-glandular stellate hairs and a few black with yellowish-tipped glandular hairs, both types of hairs more dense towards inflorescence. Involucral bracts with yellow-tipped black glandular hairs and white stellate hairs. Florets golden yellow with 5 teeth at the apex of ligules. Cypsellas c. 3 mm long, black, longitudinally ribbed, not noticeably tapered apically and with white pappus hairs to 6 mm long with small forward directed teeth. This species with early flower buds pointed out to me by Mark Williams on 6 October 2000.
