Occurrence remarks Seedlings and younger plants initially stiffly erect, sparingly branched. At maturity the plants are 50-80 cm high, the outer branches often decumbent to ascending, inner branches erect. All branches stiff, and usually beetroot-coloured. Leaf upper surface mid green, dull or slightly glossy, margins often beetroot-coloured. Leaf lower surface paler, and dull. Leaves slightly unpleasently scented when crushed, bitter-scented. Sepals green, with hyaline white or purple margins. The membrane that covers the seed is usually apically purple-magenta. Seeds all vertical. Many thousands of plants of all age classes.
