Field notes On cutting upper flesh with purple tints, stipe base flesh pale grey green. Odour when fresh is sweet/curry, when old is quite sharp/farinaceous. Cap smoky brown to dark brown in centre, firm coarse scales showing paler between, edge inrolled, ca. 6.5 cm across. Spines 3 mm long, decurrent, pinky grey. Stipe velvety, rusty above, black near base, pale grey at very base, attenuated downwards.
