Field notes Naturalised shrubs to 2.6 metres high in collection area. These specimens from shrubs with branches that are layering and rooting into soil. Leaves green, paler below, glabrous. Bracts hairy (most hairs white, some tan), deciduous. Corolla with tube c. 10mm long and lobes mauve, central upper lobe and edges of other 2 upper lobes closest to the central lobe with orange spots. Stamens 10, pilaments pink and covered with white hairs, anthers pink with pale yellow tips (pollen?). Stigma pink, sticky; style purple-pink, end near stigma

Occurrence remarks paler. Two flowering shrubs in collections area. Mostly shrubs appear to be naturalising near existing plantings in Blackheath ( a few naturalised shrubs were also noted in other upper Blue Mountains suburbs). Identity confirmed by J.R.Hosking using NSW (main collection) on 12/2/2003.

Naturalised weeds nearby include Ilex aquifolium and Arbutus unedo Growing next to ecotone with hanging swamp."
