Event remarks | Site Q298. Mesophyll palm forest (Hydriastele wendlandiana) on permanently wet black soil. Forms abrupt edge to surrounding open woodland with yellow soils of eroding slope of bauxite plateau. Dense shady canopy to 20m with persistent groundcover of sedges (Scleria ciliaris) and ferns to 1m in height, 5 degree slope to S.(RE 3.3.5/3.3.g; Gunness land unit 4b). Small clumping sedge to 400mm long, drooping in grassland understorey, with inflorescences borne on lower side of stem. Occurs in localised depression on dark soil. |
