Field notes Carpels mostly shed as a unit of 6. Leaves concolorous; pedicels 5-6mm long; scape compressed, often twisted, margins thickened; stigmas with short white hairs. All parts mostly at or below water surface, except where exposed on drying ground. All flowering and fruiting stalks geniculate at or near junction of spike and scape. Flowering scapes vertical above water surface; fruiting heads soon lying on or below water.
