Field notes Tree 42 feet tall with grey, fibrous, vertically furrowed bark. Flowers in sessile agglomerated heads along the branchlets below the main foliage. Calyx tube silvery pubescent, the small lobes with s pinkish tinge. Petals 5, small, round, red. Stamens red (RHS colour Red 46C), 5, each apically divided into a bundle of short filaments with dark purple anthers. Style red, slightly bowed.
