| Occurrence remarks | Erect plants - i.e. with basal rosette and erect flowering stems to 15 cm high. All plants reasonably young and with first flower open, although some leaves look as though they are drying out. Leaves succulent. Older basal leaves more or less terete with impressed midrib above, young leaves terete. Flowers purple to dark pink; petals 5, emarginate; stamens numerous; stigmas 3, free to the base. Flowers opened ca. 10:00am and closed by 4:00pm. Same flowers opened as on previous day - new flowers with inner anthers dehisced, stigmatic lobes closed, erect and short, outer anthers intact. Older flowers' anthers all dehisced and shrivelled, stigmatic lobes long, spreading.D. Colless' identifications of insects collected for West 4225: Coleoptera - Phyllotocus sp. (Scarabaeidae: Melolonthinae), Eleale sp. (Cleridae), Aulacophora sp. (Chrysomelidae: Galerucinae); Diptera (Bombyliidae) - 3 Bombylius spp., 1 Villa sp.; Hymenoptera - Homalictus sp., Lasioglossum sp., Leioproctus sp. [Alcohol item formerly preserved in 70% ethanol liquid, transferred to BANG Mix 2024 and 2025.] |
