Occurrence remarks Locally common (100s of all ages in collection area, small plants of this species for many km2 in and around Grawin) cactus to 11 m high. Older cladodes blue-green to grey-green and with 6-8 longitudinal ridges. Juvenile plants to 30 cm high with 4-6 longitudinal ridges. Up to 8 spines per areole, spines sometimes lost with age. Trunks on largest plants to 21 cm wide with grey spines to 11 cm long. Fruit and finished flowers on some older cladodes of tall plants.

Supplied as "Landform: 0-30 slopes. Substrate: no rock seen. Soil: red sand. Vegetation: Eucalyptus populnea F. Muell. subsp. bimbil L. A. S. Johnson & K. D. Hill and Callitris sp. woodland growing with other cacti including Harrisia tortuosa (J. Forbes ex Otto & A. Dietr.) Britton & Rose (J. R. Hosking 2401 & W. A. Cherry), Cylindropuntia sp. (J. R. Hosking 2395, W. A. Cherry & M. P. Goodwin) and Cylindropuntia kleiniae DC. (J. R. Hosking 2405 & W. A. Cherry) and mostly native herbs and shrubs."
