Organism remarks Main characteristics: (i) all over reddish brilliant orange; (ii) reaction to KOH black; (iii) slender, graceful; (iv) dyes wool pinkish with no mordant;(v) bright orange mycelium. Pileus: up to 35 mm broad, convex, becoming broadly umbonate, ovoid, red brown, close to 8C7, 10D7 (wet), centre redder, margin extended up a little beyond gills, decurved (pointing to stipe), becoming straight, rarely plane, entire, at times becoming partially rimose, cuticle moist, silky, appressed fibrillose (slightly matted), finely ridged at times, otherwise smooth; flesh hard, dull rusty yellowish, up to 3 mm thick near centre, drying slightly paler. Lamellae: up to 15 mm long x 4 mm deep, adnexed to sinuate, bright orange at first, close to 7B8/8B8, becoming duller, close to 7C8, narrow, close, margins even, quickly becoming serrulate, face finely ridged, becoming tickly dusted with spores, with more than 2 tiers of lamellulae (almost 4). L=12, l=85 (1/2 cap). Stipe: up to 80 mm long x 6 mm wide, tapering upwards, often slightly inflated above slightly tapering base, shiny/silky, bright orange, close to 6A7-7A6, sometimes with reddish patches, close to 8B8, silky, longitudinally appressed, fibrillose, partial veil arachnoid, orange, present as appressed fibrils on stipe when broken, flesh firm-soft, narrowly fistulose/stuffed, orange. Basal mycelium bright orange, abundant. Odour: fungussy. 15% KOH test: all turns instantly black. FeSO4 test: stipe flesh dulls. Spore print: brown, close to 7E5.
