Field notes Growth habit: solitary. Spore print: dark brown. Pileus: 113 mm wide, plane, very slightly depressed in places, orange-brown. Surface rough, tough, wet, cuticle cracked, finely wrinkled, velvety, margin appendiculate, overhanging hymenium, bruising absent. Flesh white, very soft and spongy like marshmallow, bruising absent. Thin (c. 2 mm) gelatinous layer between pileus flesh and pores, brownish-translucent becoming dark brown on exposure. Hymenium: depressed around stipe, tubes white, pores white, round, 1 per mm, bruising absent but turns pale flesh-pink when cut. Stipe: 65 mm tall x 26-50 mm wide, pyriform, cream surface with very deep, rubbery, dark gold reticulations, becoming paler, creamy yellow, and decreasing in size towards apex, tough, bruising absent. Flesh white, stuffed, bruising absent.
