Organism remarks NLB 1750 is a bit unusual if it is truly Macrohyporia dictyopora. Usually that species fruits on the tree itself, but NLB1750 was found entirely spreading over & incorporating fallen bark & litter at base of a large sugar gum tree (not at all on the tree itself). The exposed parts of the tough-rubbery resupinate growth on top of the bark and litter were bright golden brown with except white at the appressed fimbriate/tomentose margin. Underneath the tightly bound pieces of bark was the fertile part consisting of white to pale cream tubes 2 to 7 mm long, and concolorous fine variably-shaped (e.g. some circular, others elongate) pores well separated from each other and occurring at about 2 or 3 per mm, some with a finely fimbriate rim. There is no sterile layer attached above the tubes and the fertile part can be easily and cleanly peeled off the bark. Odour: strong sclerodermoid. 3% KOH applied on the sterile brown part: immediately dark honey brown; on hymenium no colour change.
Occurrence remarks Spreading over & incorporating fallen bark & litter at base of large sugar gum tree (tagged 20205341 A), on road verge.
