Organism remarks	Characteristic Features: (i) Fruit bodies irregular often undulating shape, up to 25 x 20 mm; (ii) peridium surface smooth, dry, bright golden; in section two-layered; outer layer narrow (1 mm), reddish after cut; inner layer thicker pale yellow sometimes intruding into gleba; (iii) Gleba loculate (empty labyrinthine locules) less golden yellow than the peridium; no sterile tissue visible to the eye; (iv) No columella or sterile base; some reddish rhizomorphs / roots associated with the base (see images); (v) KOH turns red-brown on peridium and on gleba. Odour: none. Micro: Ellipsoid fusoid smooth walled spores, hyaline in KOH, all pale yellow in Melzer's (not dextrinoid). No hymenial cystidia. basidia 4-spored. No clamps seen on hyphae. Peridium with extra-cellular reddish (in KOH) pigment; a simple trichoderm with undifferentiated hyaline hyphal terminals. Note: other collections of R. boletoides (e.g. E 9299) show at least some spores are dextrinoid. (See images and comparison).
