Occurrence remarks Cultivated but in early stages of naturalisation. Spreading to ascending groundcover with flowering stems to c. 80 cm. Petioles winged, leaves variegated chocolate to pale reddish-brown, with crenate-sinuate margins fringed with white hairs and scattered erect hairs and cistoliths. Inflorescence an elongate panicle subtended by paired sessile sub-orbicular leafy bracts. Flower tubular, 5-lobed, more or less actinomorphic with speckled white markings on lower lobe. Tubes c. 3 cm, lobes to 1 cm, deep pink. Capsules club-shaped, mostly immature. Seedlings and sucker regrowth observed. Curator of CBG (D. Warmington), raised concern that this species is beginning to spread in the Gardens and is likely to become invasive. It has been cultivated in two widely separated garden beds but seedlings are turning up in garden beds 10s of metres from the original plantings. Herb
