Occurrence remarks Shrub to 2.5 m high. Cladodes dark green, rope-like when young, older trunk-like cladodes not knotted. Leaves present at the base of areoles on young cladodes and young fruit, although these are easily shed. Long spines 0 several per cladode areole and long spines with a detachable sheath. Petaloid stamens purple. Fruit sometimes in chains, up to 6 fruit in a chain observed
