Occurrence remarks Locally frequent (100s of vertical stems over about 7 m x 1 m) rhizomatous shrub to 1.1 m high. Also known to be naturalised at Nambucca Heads between Captain Cook Lookout and the town on the southern side of the road. (also from dumped garden waste) in weed-infested native vegetation. Stems green, densely covered with white hairs nearest newest leaves, less hairy on older stems. Leaves decussate, dark green above, paler below,. both surfaces hairy, lower surface more so. Seed heads produced in whorls around stems just above petioles. Appears to be spreading rhizomatously from dumped garden waste that appears to have originated from nearby houses across the road. According to Tom Daniels (CAS) there is confusion regarding the name that should be applied to Justicia peruviana Lam. sensu Curtis. Tom at present uses the name J. caudata for this species but recognises that there are likely to be earlier valid names.
