Organism remarks Characteristic features: (i) Rich crimson, tapering, verrucose receptacle; (ii) White cylindric column with open chambers over entire length; (iii) Cream coloured volva with margin appressed to the column; (iv) Odour foetid (but not as strong as some phalloids). Fruit body 90 mm tall. Also check ID against Phallus multicola - a name used by Mycoblitz 2009 (CNS). Receptacle: 22 mm long, tapering, rich crimson (near Munsell 5R 6/8), verrucose with concentric ridges near apex up to 1 mm tall breaking into verrucae towards the lower end; junction with the column is abrupt and clasping. Not slimy or sticky to the touch. Column: 10 mm diam.; terete and cylindric; white entirely; with uniformly sized open lacunae (each approximately 1 to 1.5 mm wide), interior of lacunae also white. Base: A loose dirty cream volva with its margin appressed to the column, some appressed pale brownish patches present on surface; 20 mm tall x 15 mm wide; without rhizomorphs other than a single dirty (dirt-covered) strand.
