Occurrence remarks Locally frequent (many recently treated with herbicide in the Lightning Ridge area although 100s have been missed) cactus to 1.5 m high. Cladodes glaucous-green; outer cladodes to 4.5 cm wide. Areoles with 0-6 longer pale brown spines to 1.5 cm long and 0-4 pale brown spall spines <5 mm long. Sepaloid perianth segments pink with green in middle (vertically). Petaloid perianth segments pink; style pale yellow, pinkish towards stigma; stigma pale yellow; filaments of inner stamens white, filaments of outer stamens tinged pink; anthers golden. Fruit to 3 cm long and to 3 cm wide. Older fruit with fewer (1-2) spines than more recent fruit. Fruit rarely proliferating to chains of 2 fruit.
