Organism remarks (i) dark red-brown gills; (ii) obscurely translucent-striate cap margin on a dark red-brown cap; (iii) bi and monosporic. Compared to the Laccaria species found on the Hilltop site near site 17 (described in 1995 and also seen in 1996), that, has whiter paler gills and more orange coloured cap. Look up the collection number and compare them. Also E5727 is probably an example of the pale gilled Laccaria - compare!!. Pileus: 8-24mm diam.; convex with decurved margin, soon flat-convex sometimes flattening out completely, others remaining convex and then sometimes developing a central depression; margin obscurely translucent-striate; very dark red-brown (near 8F8 to 9F8) remaining red-brown but lighter (8E7 to 9E7) and palest at the cap margin. Stipe: 15-30 x 1.5-3mm; cylindrical; hollow with age; dry; longitudinally silky-fibrillose; dark red-brown (same as cap ) except paler near base. Lamellae: adnexed (broadly so when young) to adnate; to 4mm deep; not particularly thick; close spacing; dark pink when young (9D5) then very dark pink-brown (9E7); edge smooth and entire; lamellules abundant (L=9, l=31); some anastomes in some specimens. Flesh: dark red-brown (similar to surface colours). Basal mycelium: not conspicuous. Microscopically: spores globose, 7.5 - 10 microns, hyaline in Melzers and KOH, thin walled and spinose; basidia 1 and 2 spored with no clamp connection at the base; cystidia absent. Mode of Life: unknown Odour: not distinctive Taste: none.
