| Organism remarks | NLB 1746 is characterised by: (1) Fruit bodies in tight clusters with many stipes co-joined at base; (2) Pileus dark brown to almost black grading to paler brown then later brighter greenish-yellow towards margin; (3) Lamellae waxy, bright yellow when mature; (4) Long slender pale stipe often co-joined at base; (4) Habit in organic material directly on top of charred log. Pileus: up to 18 mm diam., convex with strongly incurved (possibly inrolled when very young) entire non-striate margin, centrally flat or slightly depressed with age; when young smooth dark brown to almost black, later dark brown to blackish in the centre grading to paler brown then later brighter greenish-yellow (near Methuen 4C6) towards the margin (in those parts appearing under hand lens as scattered innate/appressed dark brown spots amid a paler background). Lamellae: arcuate when young, later adnexed with a short decurrent portion; pale yellow when young brightening when mature (near 3A4); with a waxy consistency; edge entire (not cystidiate). Stipe: up to 40 x 3 mm; cylindric, often flexuous-bent, sometimes co-joined at base with one or more other stipes; with central hollow at maturity; surface dull whitish becoming duller yellowish and watery after handling, densely covered with minute black un-raised spots (see under lens) especially in the upper stipe. Spore print: white. Odour: not distinctive. Spores: subglobose to broad ovoid, hyaline with one large guttule (in KOH), smooth/thin-walled, apiculus narrow but prominent up to 1 micron long; size (incl. apiculus) 4.7-5.4 × 3.7-4.5 microns, mean 5.1 × 4.1 microns, Q: 1.11-1.30, Q mean 1.23 (n=25). |
