Occurrence remarks Succulent shrub to 1 m high. Plants of all ages present. Leaves with blade to 7 cm long and to 2.5 cm wide on petiole to 4 cm long; blade V-shaped, green to grey-green inside the V, green to greenish-brown with darker brown blotches on outer surface. Calyx greyish and 4-lobed. Petals to 3 cm long, yellow-red. Stamens 6-8, some flowers with deformed stamens, stamen filaments reddish-yellow, anthers dark brown, pollen yellow. Carpels 4, stigmas and style yellow. Flowers mostly finished at this time. Older plants in the open appear to have been killed by drought in recent times but new small plants are now growing near the base of the dead plants. Locally frequent over>1 ha in collection area, dominant under trees and shrubs, also seen in a number of other areas throughout the Lightning Ridge opal fields and also naturalised at Cumborah (in most cases Bryophyllum species are growing in clumps of one species or the hybrid rather than in mixed stands.)
