Field notes Shrub to 1.4 m high. Stems green, purplish or brown, stellate hairy with numerous greenish white, brown or purple spines. Leaves lobed; adaxial surface dark green and with some stellate hairs on the veins; abaxial surface pale green with stellate white or purple hairs. Leaves with yellow spines on veins on adaxial and abaxial surfaces. Some flowers only male. Calyx green and purple with stellate white hairs and numerous purple spines. Corolla mauve. Stamens with yellow anthers and short greenish white filaments. Stigma white and style purple. Fruit obovate, pale green with darker green longitudinal markings.

Supplied as "Aspect: c. 5 degree SW facing slope. Substrate: no rocks visible. Soil type: dark brown sandy loam. Vegetation: Eucalyptus albens shrubby open forest that has been burnt in recent years, growing with Dodonaea viscosa subsp. angustifolia, Solanum amblymerum (J.R.Hosking 3953), Swainsona galegifolia, Daucus glochidiatus s.lat. (J.R.Hosking 3955), Hypochaeris glabra, Senecio sp. (non radiate heads), Vittadinia sp., Crassula sieberiana, Austrostipa sp., Calotis lappulacea, Desmodium brachypodum, Brunoniella australis, Senecio pinnatifolius var. pinnatifolius and Arenaria leptoclados."
