Georeference remarks | The coal train ran from the main railway line near the bus stop and St Joseph's church and school along the bottom of Quandong Park then along Fitzroy Ave which was called Pumps Road, along past Spider's Web Store and down to the pumping station near the cliffs at Cliffside.. It was still running in 1950's and probably into the 60's The trains went to Diesel and the pumping station to electricity. There was a water tank/syphon thing to do with the train near the mail railway line and Catholic Church. There was a pumping sub station in Fitzroy Ave just east of Guava St. located on a channel. I don't recall a Syphon but there was a small channel that ran north of the houses in town part of Fitzroy Ave and may have been other things around the area that is the Scout Hall at the junction of Fitzroy Ave and Guava St. JH Browne (father) lived in Fitzroy Ave opposite the HIgh School and Sports Grounds. |
