Occurrence remarks | Last year, in October, I collected two species of Aphelia which I kept for dissecting purposes. No 1, as enclosed, though varying in some minor respects, I have no doubt, is the typical A.gracilis, but No 2, also enclosed, has a hermaphrodite flower in the lowest bract [?]& C. This No 2, I believe, is the same species, as is labelled A.gracilis in my (formerly) herbarium, collected farther north, & evidently is not that species. When time permits, please examine plants No 2, with those in the Herbarium, I think, there is a fair supply of them available for dissecting, and if you find them identical, compare with others in the National Herbarium; I am inclined to think it may be a new. |
