Field notes | Pileus 85 mm diam., convex, umbonate, dry, centre pale yell. brown (over umbo), around with small appressed pale yellowish brown squamules, some arranged c. concentrically, sparse to absent in third near margin, ground colour off white, smooth. Larger individuals also present. Stipe 170/9 mm, broader near base (-16 mm), with very superior membranous ring which consists of an appressed collar and a lower flange at right angle to stipe, eventually quite movable. (Off) white, surface dry, with very fine markings consist of fibrils forming irregular incomplete zig-zag concentric rings. At apex more coarsely fibrillose. Lamellae free, off white, in places with reddish brown discolouration. Apparently darker in age (to at least light brown) - from photos of Andrew Bould. Flesh white in cap, hollow in stem, in places in stem with dark brown discolouration, also in cap. Odour slightly unpleasant. |
