Occurrence remarks | Locally abundant (many 1000s of plants) herb to 30 cm high. At 'Inverness' mostly over 50 m x 50 m but scattered further away. Also at 'Blocken' alongside Woodstock Road at 29 degrees 45 min 29 sec S 151 degrees 15 min 27 sec E, altitude 690 m (this is likely have been the site of the first Australian collection of this species made in 1969). At 'Blocken' scattered over about 1 ha. These two infestations are 16.5 km apart. Also known from one other property in the Inverell district. Plants scented. Stems with long white segmented hairs and shorter white glandular hairs. Leaves opposite. Flowers tubular, corolla predominantly white with 5 lobes, upper single lip with black tip and lower lip with 4 lobes with black tips, each flower producing up to 4 mericarps. Mericarps c. 3.5 mm long, c. 2.5 mm wide, surface brown with black markings and finely pockmarked. Plants are not grazed by stock and control by chemicals has proved difficult. Most spread appears to have been due to movement by cultivation equpment. |
