Field notes Locally frequent (>100 plants) clumped grass to 90 cm high. Shortly rhizomatous and one plant with a stem ending in roots. Rhizomes and basal leaf sheaths hairy but leaves grey-green and glabrous. Inflorescence divaricate. Longest racemes on plants from 8.5–26 cm long, pink on older spreading arms. Basal racemes mostly without spikelets for the basal 2 cm. Short hairs <0.5 mm long in raceme axils. Spikelets in pairs, basal one on a short pedicel the upper one on a longer pedicel. Mature spikelets 3.5–4 mm long. Caryopsis c. 3 mm
