Field notes Herb to 1.4 m high. Plants growing from bulb to 15 cm wide with numerous thick roots from base of bulb. Layers within bulb onion-like. Leaves glossy, mid green above and below; to 68 cm long and to 9 cm wide; base of leaf sheathing stem and extending to bulb. Inflorescence stems arise from near bulb, leafy stems extend above base of inflorescence. Flowers with 6 pink tepals (to 9 cm long and to 3.8 cm wide); in two groups, 5 above and one below sexual parts. Stamens 6; base of filaments attached to tepals, filaments white at base and pink above; anthers black and boomerang-shaped, medifixed to filament. Stigma bifid, dark red; style white at base to dark pink near stigma.
