Occurrence remarks Locally common (>1000 plants in small numbers in many areas on serpentinite) herb to 60 cm high. Plants with spreading white roots. Lower stems and lower surface of lower leaves purple. Upper stems and upper leaf surface dark green. Edge of leaves recurved with small teeth. Lobing of lower leaves only seen on one plant (out of many looked at). Stems and leaves with scattered white woolly hairs that are more common on the lower leaf surface. Flowering branches erect. Involucral bracts 10–12. Florets tubular, yellow, with 4 lobes. Heads checked (6) with 23–32 cypselas (although one small head had only 12 cypselas). Cypselas 2.0–2.2 (a few to 2.5) mm long, brown with obvious longitudinal rows of white hairs. Pappus of numerous white hairs.
