Organism remarks Characterised by: (i) kidney shape; (ii) soft fragile consistancy; (iii) hygrophanous nature; (iv) creamy colour cap; (v) gills aging to fawn; (vi) no stipe but a cluster of white hairs in centre of back edge attaching body to dead wood; (vii) form like a bracket fungi; (viii) as specimens enlarge and age, the edge became upcurved. Cap: white furry stipe area; size 10 to 60 mm; stip-like attachment 2 to 10 mm diameter, 4 to 15 mm depth of cap, the stipe is on top; applanate; margins entire and incurved. Hygrophanous- semicircularcap - from the outer edge, inwards. Opaque in centre and translucent towards edges. Flesh of cap appears to be made up of silky hairs; texture slightly velvety (velutinous) and fragile. Colour: cream (Methuen P4A2), centre cream A2, edge beige C4, <10 mm diameter, centre P4, beige 4B edge (?), The old specimens beige P5, 5D and 3D Methuen. Gills: free and close; lamellules abundant in 2 sizes; very small specimens have only one lamule (between gills). Colour: brownish Methuen; old specimens P5-6D and light bown 8D; young - mature cream (Methuen 4C). Stipe: absent, except for hairy attachment from top of cap onto wood. Veil: not evident. Flesh: white gills pearly coloured; basal myceleum appear as fine white silk, although branched. Taste: not distinctive. Odour: not distinctive. Spore print: dull brown. Life mode: S.
