Previous identifications S. fragilis x matsudana cv. “Tortuosa”
Occurrence remarks Numerous small willow plants, ranging in size from only a few cm up to 50cm, growing in a muddy area, approx. 100 square metres in size. Up to 100 plants are growing at this site. They appear to have arisen from seed. Pulled plants have no stem fragments attached but do have well-developed tap roots. Plants display varying degrees of tortuosity, indicating that Salix matsudana 'tortuosa' (female) is one parent. The second parent and pollen donor is most likely Salix fragilis (male). These two species are growing in a nearby garden. Other willow taxa growing in the vicinity (approx 100m radius) include Salix babylonica and Salix x chyrsocoma. Plants first discovered and suspected of being seedlings by Andrew Crane (DPIW - Weed officer). Two sheets. Plants not fertile. Second parent is Salix matsudana cv. “Tortuosa”
